From the home screen, tap Scan Document. Point your camera at the page — CameraToPDF detects the edges automatically and captures a cropped, perspective-corrected image. Keep scanning to add more pages, then continue to export.

Optimize Size converts pages to greyscale at a lower resolution, producing small files while keeping text and pencil marks readable — ideal for multi-page documents. Optimize Quality keeps full color and higher resolution, which is better for photos, diagrams, or documents with colored ink or highlights, at the cost of a larger file.

Yes. CameraToPDF can also import existing photos from your photo library and add them as document pages, which is useful if you already have pictures of a document saved.

After scanning, open the export screen, name your file, and choose Save to Files to store it in the Files app, or Email PDF to attach it to a new email via your Mail app.

No. Scanning, image processing, and PDF creation all happen entirely on your device — no internet connection is required, and your documents are never uploaded anywhere.

Camera access is needed to scan document pages. Photo Library access is only needed if you choose to import an existing photo as a page. Neither permission is used for anything else, and nothing is sent off your device.

It's an optional, one-time tip ($1, $3, or $5) you can leave to support development of the app. Tips don't unlock any features — CameraToPDF is fully functional either way. Purchases are processed securely by Apple through the App Store.

Try scanning on a flat, contrasting surface with even lighting, and avoid strong shadows or glare. Holding the camera directly above the page (rather than at an angle) also helps the scanner find the edges more reliably.
